For the past 4 weeks, I’ve been trying to conjure up a post for Mental Health Awareness(MHA) Month – to no avail.
I’ve dug deep and realized that my go-to formula for writer’s block goes back to what I was taught in 11th grade, “Write the truest thing you know and take it from there.” So, if I’m going to finally do this, I need to write honestly and without fear. That’s the hard part, without fear. But I’m going for it. I’ll take a few extra breathes in between because this is the last week of May and I can’t take a few extra of those any more.
I was planning to do all sorts of things for MHA month. Write daily posts, doodle, post on Instagram until I spread awareness galore, but then my old friend kicked off in my brain and here we are.
Barely managing to share my spread of awareness.
After twenty-five days of not knowing where to start/what to post, I think it’s only fair to open this last week with UK’s MHA theme of 2019 which is Body Image – how we think and feel about our bodies.
A topic which is close to home. A topic that makes me feel all the feels. And one that can affect all of us, not just me.
Body image issues don’t discriminate. They can be strongly felt by anyone no matter the age. I can attest to that. I am proof. I’ve felt them at a younger age and I still struggle with them from time-to-time.
Because of this, I’ll be
talking writing more about the importance of being #bodykind. Even in the moments when you feel you can’t.
These are the things that I have to remember. Things that I have stopped practicing and need to practice once more.
I’ll do it throughout this week. I know, a week isn’t nearly enough time to spread the type of body-love awareness needed, but it’s a start. It’s my start. The truest things I know about it and they’ll be written in hopes of advocating self-love.
